Ella & The Rogue Tones is an exciting quartet bringing you a range of flavours from jazz, latin, soul with a pinch of folk thrown in. Ella Turk-Richards on guitar and voice, Pete Truin on tenor saxophone, James Macphail on double bass and Treve Nicol on percussion and voice.

Ella Turk-Richards is a musician with an affinity for combining jazz with the huge melting pot of influences from around the globe, using the voice as an instrument, always seeking to discover a new sound. Shining through in her arrangements is Ella’s many years of writing for vocal ensembles and choirs she has run. This only enriches the overall experience with Ella’s original a cappella compositions woven into the set. She found her community in meeting the rest of this quartet, where together they explore and distill to present an exciting fusion of styles.

Pete Truin’s talents seem bottomless, as he delivers such nuanced yet strident playing on his tenor saxophone, always leaving you wanting more.

The double bass is seemingly rediscovered, redrawn and presented to you afresh in the expert hands of James Macphail.

Treve Nicol’s deft touch on percussion, with years of honing influences from latin American tributaries alongside his clear and rich vocals deepens the quartet’s magic.

This quartet weaves hypnotic grooves, all the while beckoning the audience to indulge in the emotional landscapes Ella creates in her songwriting. It is anything but the usual trope, instead taking you down unknown and surprising paths, with soaring and rich vocals, that will keep you guessing.
Performing original compositions written by Ella Turk-Richards and group collaborations alongside some lesser performed jazz classics. This combines to bring you a rich set that won’t fail to delight and move you.

They are thrilled to be invited back to play at this special local venue once again, where magic is cast out into the evening air.
